Alison Renfrew Certified Financial Planner of the Year 2004 Alison has a long record of providing financial advice to her clients. After graduating from Victoria University with a B.Sc. in 1982 she joined an international financial services company in 1983. Alison sold mainly life insurance and investment products. She was the first woman in the company to qualify for the prestigious Blue Ribbon award in her first year and the first woman to qualify for the Silver Ribbon award. Alison sold her business and moved to the UK in 1989. She established a new client base in the UK in financial services. This was particularly challenging as the regulatory environment and people were quite different to those in New Zealand.
On returning to New Zealand Alison established her own financial planning company where she applied her overseas experience and knowledge. Creating Wealth Ltd was established in 1994. Creating Wealth Ltd markets the leading financial service companies range of products from investments, retirement savings and insurances. Alison has qualified by examination to be a member of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Insurance and Investment Advisers, 1998 and qualified by examination to be a Certified Financial Planner, 2001, and is entitled to use the distinctive title and designation CLU (Chartered Life Underwriter) and CFP (Certified Financial Planner) the pinnacle of professional attainment. Alison is the first woman in New Zealand to hold both CLU and CFP. Alison complies with the Continuing Education requirements of the Institute. Alison is a Life & Qualifying member of the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT), a US based organisation. Qualification for the MDRT is restricted to the top 5% of financial service professionals from 52 countries around the world. Alison works with her husband Dr Richard Renfrew in Creating Wealth Ltd. Richard is also a financial planner. They have three children Michael, Catherine and Ricky. Alison loves the thrill and challenge of being in business and helping others achieve financial independence and fulfill their financial goals. She is a trained opera singer, plays the piano, and enjoys traveling and skiing. Alison has served on the committees of the Wellington Underwater Club and the Tararua Tramping Club. Alison is also a member of the Financial Planners and Insurance Advisers Association (IFA) - both the College of Insurance Advisers and the College of Financial Planners. The CFP Board is an independent professional self regulatory body acting to benefit and protect the public in its dealings with persons engaged in providing financial advice by establishing educational, ethical and disciplinary standards, developing and administering examinations within the field of financial planning and authorising individuals who meet its criteria to use the CFP Board’s Marks.”
Chartered Life Underwriter ( CLU ) is the highest insurance and personal risk management qualification available to insurance professionals in New Zealand. It is specifically suited to those who specialise in the areas of personal and business insurance. The CLU qualification demonstrates that the holder has a high standard of competence in their chosen profession and it can be expected that the holder will maintain the highest standard of professionalism and ethics when giving advice.
Alison is a sought after speaker on all aspects of finance and investment and she regularly speaks at corporate and public seminars. She has written numerous articles for Wellington Evening Post and had her own weekly slot on local television. Alison is committed to introducing a personal approach to investment and the management of one’s money.
Alison is an active member of the IFA and is currently on the Wellington Branch committee. Alison won the Financial Planner of the Year Award in 2004 , and was also a finalist in 2002 and 2003. Winner of "Her Business Woman of the Year", 2004 - category "Most Inspirational Business Woman"
